You don't need a mechanic to fix a skipping chain. Most shifting issues can be resolved with a quarter-turn of a barrel adjuster.
The Barrel Adjuster Secret
If the chain is struggling to shift to a larger cog, turn the barrel adjuster counter-clockwise (adding tension). If it won't drop to a smaller cog, turn it clockwise (releasing tension).
